It has become a tradition: every year I design my Christmas cards to reflect what I have been working on over the past months.
In January, I took a calligraphy class with Birgit Nass (birgitnass.com) to explore a freer style of writing. Much of my calligraphy work is usually based on carefully copying historical writing masters, a practice I approach with great dedication. This time, however, I wanted to add a script to my portfolio that feels more lively and spontaneous. I spent the first half of the year practicing exercises to develop fluency.
Alongside this, I also spent some time working with watercolours (Aquarell, as we say in Germany). So far, my painting had been guided exclusively by templates.
This year’s Christmas card brings these two practices together: a watercolour tree paired with free cursive lettering.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2026!
